At Ridgeway Theatre School, ISTD Ballet, Tap, and Modern Dance classes provide the essential foundation for young dancers. Whether your child is taking their first steps in dance or progressing towards advanced levels, Ridgeway offers a nurturing environment where technique, artistry, and confidence grow together.

Accredited Examinations

Students may enter ISTD graded and vocational examinations in Ballet, Tap, and Modern from the age of six. These internationally recognised qualifications are accredited by OFQUAL and provide a clear pathway through the grades, with two examination sessions held annually. For those who wish to progress further, ISTD training can even lead to teacher qualifications in the future.

Training & Technique

Classes are designed to be both technical and expressive, balancing the discipline of the ISTD syllabus with creativity, performance, and enjoyment. Children learn posture, rhythm, and precision while also exploring musicality, artistry, and stage presence. Small class sizes (maximum 15 pupils) ensure personalised attention and intensive training.

Beyond the Classroom

Ridgeway students gain opportunities to perform in showcases, competitions, and full productions, applying their training in live settings that build confidence and stage experience. ISTD training is also woven into Ridgeway’s wider dance curriculum, connecting Ballet, Tap, and Modern with Jazz, Contemporary, Acrobatics, and Commercial styles.

Pathways to Success

Many Ridgeway alumni have progressed to vocational colleges, drama schools, conservatoires, West End productions, national tours, and teaching careers. Importantly, Ridgeway students have also gone on to appear in television dramas, feature films, and commercials, proving that our ISTD programme is not only prestigious and accredited, but also a launchpad for careers across stage and screen.
